Highball, Scotch,

You can’t really talk about the Yellowstone series without first getting to know the patriarch of the Dutton Ranch empire, John Dutton. Though he may be a complicated man, fighting to keep his land (the largest ranch in Montana) is as simple as keeping the pact he made with his father – no matter the cost . We wanted to find a cocktail that embodied this, and thought a riff on The Godfather cocktail did just that. The traditional recipe calls for just 2 ingredients ✌ , Scotch and Amaretto, which is simple and goes with John’s bottom line to keep his ranch. The flavors, however, especially when you add a couple dashes of cherry bitters, are anything but. The spiciness of the scotch, the rich, velvety almond notes from the Amaretto, the bright tartness from the cherry bitters… it’s sinfully good and intricate.

In John’s own words to Kayce, keeping his ranch sometimes means doing evil things, then fighting to keep your humanity… “You can’t reason with evil, son. Evil wants what it wants and won’t stop until it has won or you kill it. To kill it is to be meaner than evil.” The challenge is “that you can be meaner than evil and still love your family and still enjoy a sunrise.” We don’t think anyone could say that with more truth than John Dutton, who we’re calling the leader of the Cowboy Mafia.
How to: In a mixing glass with ice, add ingredients. Stir and pour into a glass with 1 large ice cube. Finish with 2 dashes cherry bitters.
