Gin, Martini, Vodka,

’Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?’… That’s right, today we’re featuring the “Vesper” martini. It seemed only fitting in honor of National Martini Day, and a good way to ring in the start of Father’s Day weekend. James Bond (the name is Bond, James Bond) is a classic character. He liked his martinis “shaken, not stirred” which comes in pretty handy when you’re serving up a cocktail that is entirely alcohol. It waters the drink down ever so slightly and honestly goes down pretty darn smooth. Why the name “Vesper”? Bond’s love interest asks if her beverage namesake comes from the bitter aftertaste but he explains that “No, because once you’ve tasted it, that’s all you want to drink.” Works for me ! Along with his fabulous taste in a martini, Bond is as tough as they come, outsmarting villains and saving the world in an almost routine fashion. When it comes to superheroes, he’s one of ours – right up there beside our fathers. Let’s give them all the credit they deserve this weekend and remember every time they’ve come to our rescue. Cheers!
How To: In a shaker, add gin, vodka and lillet blanc. Shake with ice until the outside of the shaker is cold. Serve in a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist.
